For S$25, a 17-year-old boy told an unemployed man that he would find the man a prostitute.
But after getting the money, Raguvaren Bala told the man that the prostitute did not want to provide any service. Feeling cheated, 37-year-old Sng Meng Teck called the police and Raguvaren was arrested.
Raguvaren pleaded guilty in court on Monday to cheating Sng of the S$25 by lying to him.
On May 31 at 12am, Raguvaren approached Sng who was sitting at a void deck in Jalan Bukit Merah.
Together with a 15-year-old accomplice, Raguvaren asked Sng if he was interested in engaging a prostitute. A discussion on the price for engaging the prostitute ensued and both parties decided on S$25.
The teenagers then asked Sng to follow them to Bukit Purmei Hill Park. After reaching the place, Sng handed S$25 to Raguvaren and was told to wait.
After a while, the teens returned. They told Sng that the prostitute did not want to provide any service to him and walked away.
Sng felt cheated and chased after them. But the teens managed to flee the scene. Sng sought the assistance of a passer-by and called the police.
Police investigations revealed that there was no prostitute to provide any service and the teens had cooked up the lie to cheat Sng of his money.
Raguvaren will next appear in court on December 28. He is expected to be sentenced then.
